Mary Houghton, Vice Chair and Treasurer
Mary Houghton was a cofounded the ShoreBank Corporation, a regulated commercial bank holding company organized for purposes of community development (and later, environmental protection) in 1973. She was the senior lender of Shorebank’s lead bank in Chicago and managed expansions, including the formation of ShoreCap International in 2003. Ms. Houghton was elected to be a director of Equator Capital Partners, a fund management company formed by former ShoreBank employees ,and she continues to serve as a director of two of four non‐profit small business loan funds that became independent when ShoreBank, with $2 billion in assets, closed its doors in 2010.
Ms. Houghton is a director of several financial institutions: Basix or Bhartiya Samruddhi Investments and Consulting Services (BASICS Ltd.) and Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Limited (BSFL) in Hyderabad, India and Citizens Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vancity Credit Union in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is also a director of several non‐profit organizations focusing on asset accumulation issues internationally: the Calvert Foundation and the Grassroots Business Fund. A graduate of the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, she was a Visiting Scholar there in 2011.
