WWB NETWORK

The Women's World Banking network is a unique mix of leading microfinance institutions (MFIs) and banks that satisfy the stringent performance standards of WWB and are highly committed to the financial empowerment of low-income women entrepreneurs and their families.

WWB NETWORK

AFFILIATES & ASSOCIATES

70 percent of our network members rank among the top three MFIs in their countries, and over 70 percent of their clients are women. Network leaders share WWB's belief that when given access to credit and other financial services, low-income women are resourceful, dynamic and bankable economic agents whose work vastly benefits their local communities and economies. The WWB Network is also unique in that the majority of the network leaders are women. Click here to view an interactive map of our global network. Member organizations encourage women's leadership at all organizational levels and women's participation in decision making and policy change. In supporting our network members, WWB is guided by the principle that self-governed, locally controlled organizations know their own markets and are in the best position to create their own strategies and plans for the future. The WWB Network is also guided by the principle of mutual accountability: both network members and the WWB Global Team are mutually accountable for performance and impact, as evaluated annually based on measurable data.

The WWB Network of microfinance institutions and banks consists of:

  • Twenty-eight (28) WWB Affiliates and Associates: Affiliates are women-led microfinance institutions (MFIs) that provide direct financial services to low-income women entrepreneurs. Associates are leading MFIs, not necessarily led by women, but that predominantly serve poor women. Click here to view Affiliates and Associates at-a-glance.
  • WWB's Global Network for Banking Innovation (GNBI) consists of 24 leading banks and regulated MFIs that are retailers, wholesalers and specialized institutions in microfinance. The GNBI serves 9.5 million borrowers worldwide.
  • WWB's African Microfinance Network (AFMIN) is an association of 21 country-level microfinance networks in Africa representing more than 800 microfinance institutions. AFMIN members work together as change agents in microfinance and financial markets in Africa, operating through strong partnerships and speaking with one voice on behalf of low-income households. AFMIN serves nearly 5 million borrowers.

Together, WWB Affiliates and Associates, the GNBI and AFMIN serve more than 23 million low-income clients in over 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
