Location: New York, NY or Washington, DC
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: $37-42 per hour

Salary range is for candidates based in the New York City Metropolitan area. Outside of the NYC metro, we differentiate salaries based on location.

It is customary for entry-level candidates to join Women’s World Banking at the lower half of the range to leave room for candidates to grow, expand, and develop in the role. It is common for starting salaries to fall in the mid-point of the range for more experienced candidates. We negotiate actual salaries with final candidates based on their exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.

Position Summary

The Communications Specialist works closely with the CEO to develop and deliver all CEO communications that drive financial development efforts for the organization across audiences, platforms, and formats in alignment with the organization’s brand and communications strategy.

We are looking for a strong and versatile writer with approximately 7-10 years of experience and demonstrated expertise in translating complex ideas, thinking, and initiatives into accessible, engaging content that resonates with diverse global audiences and cultures.

Working closely with the Head of External Affairs and Chief Development Officer, the role ensures the CEO’s voice and influence are leveraged to build awareness, strengthen the brand, and effectively drive the NGO’s fundraising goals across external and internal communications.

This is an execution-focused position that requires integrated and connected thinking to craft the CEO’s thought leadership, which is inextricably linked to, and shapes, the Women’s World Banking reputation and image as a leader in women’s economic empowerment. Combining strong strategic understanding with exceptional executional writing skills and the ability to drive business development, this position plays a critical role in the organizational communications strategy delivery.

This is a part-time position (20–25 hours per week), aligned with U.S. Eastern Time business hours, with flexibility required based on the CEO’s schedule.

Roles and Responsibilities

Develop, produce and deliver all CEO communications for external and internal stakeholders in alignment with the organization’s brand and communications strategy.  It includes, but is not limited to, the CEO’s social media presence, earned media opportunities, speaking engagements, speech and video script writing, and key stakeholder communications, including donor and board correspondence.

Content Development & Delivery

  • Actively manage the CEO’s social media presence with a clear content plan, including regular (twice weekly) LinkedIn postings in alignment with other WWB communications and marketing activities
  • Deliver talking points for speaking engagements, events, and bi-lateral meetings, working closely with External Affairs, Development and other key stakeholders including the Executive Assistant
  • Prepare briefing and speaking points for media interviews and meetings
  • Track global media and events to identify opportunities for CEO engagement, thought leadership and visibility. Develop the CEO point of view in response to
  • relevant industry news, trends, and external publications
  • Produce communications for a variety of formats including blogs, op-eds, speeches, keynotes, and video scripts
  • Leverage organizational messaging and proactively repurpose existing WWB content for CEO communications
  • Produce and deliver the President’s Report. Incorporate the CEO’s voice into key WWB reports such as the annual Impact Report, Core Funders Report, and WAM Annual Reports
  • In close alignment with the Executive Assistant, support the CEO with board communications, key stakeholder correspondence, meeting follow-up and email communication
  • Conduct background research to support thought leadership content development and proactively propose ways to strengthen and enhance the CEO’s voice and communications

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, with a solid grasp of the context, ecosystem and stakeholders in which Women’s World Banking operates
  • Sound understanding of organizational pillars, including gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and intersectional themes such as Climate and Health
  • Approximately 8 years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, journalism, or related field, with a writing focus
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to write for senior / executive leaders
  • Experience creating content and storytelling across multiple formats and platforms (social media, speechwriting, blogs, video scripts)
  • Ability to translate complex and/or technical topics into clear, engaging narratives
  • Strong attention to detail and proof-reading skills
  • Experience working across cultures and geographies, and is energized by working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and virtual global environment with senior leadership
  • Works well under pressure with fast turnaround and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Equally comfortable working as an individual and in a team with different stakeholders across the organization.
  • A strong project manager who proactively seeks to create connections, drive productive and efficient workflows and deliver integrated impactful communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in philanthropy and engaging with donors and funders
  • Familiarity with CEO and board level communications
  • Solid understanding of brand and messaging frameworks
  • Excellent command of the English language, further language skills such as Spanish or German beneficial
  • Willing to travel occassionally with the CEO as needed

Measure of Success

Within the first 75 days

  • Develop a strong understanding of the CEO’s voice and her expectations around her communications and working style
  • Build solid and productive relationships with key stakeholders - especially the Head of External Affairs, the Executive Assistant, Chief Development Officer and the Brand, Marketing & Communications teams
  • Fully understand the organizational strategy, structure, systems and workflows especially as they pertain to communications, social media, board and donor engagement
  • Display ownership of the brand, the strategic messaging and communications strategy
  • All communications and content output adhere to the high expectations and quality standards of Women’s World Banking
