The Women’s World Banking Institute at Women’s World Banking is a pioneering hub for research, training, and capacity-building, dedicated to advancing women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment worldwide through a “learn it, teach it” approach. Our comprehensive marquee research agenda covers critical topics such as climate change, AI/ML risks and opportunities, and intimate partner violence (IPV), among others. By collecting and analyzing cross-functional and regional data, we generate valuable insights to inform perspectives on women’s financial inclusion. Additionally, we offer high-impact training opportunities and innovative research initiatives. Through these efforts, we equip our key stakeholders – financial service providers (FSPs), policymakers, partners, and the broader audience – with cutting-edge knowledge to take evidence-based action for women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
INTERNING AT WOMEN’S WORLD BANKING
The Women’s World Banking Institute team at Women’s World Banking seeks a student intern to develop the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) knowledge deliverable and support in re-sharing Women’s World Banking’s new SharePoint structure and knowledge management. We work closely with our interns to design work plans that fit each intern’s technical abilities and professional development goals. They will work in a multi-disciplinary team with researchers trained in quantitative and qualitative analysis, financial product specialists, insights strategists, and policy and advocacy experts. Interning with the Women’s World Banking Institute Team is a great opportunity for a student seeking hands-on experience in international applied research for social impact.
Roles and Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing:
The intern will be expected to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week and undertake some combination of the following activities:
Insights Collection & Analysis:
- Support the gathering of qualitative and quantitative data on trend topics on financial inclusion
- Analyze trends and patterns in project data
- Conduct secondary research on best practices, case studies, and innovative approaches to financial inclusion
- Contribute to the creation of reports, presentations, and white papers that summarize findings and actionable recommendations
- Support ongoing internal capacity-building efforts by sharing insights and helping develop evidence-based decision-making frameworks
Knowledge Management:
- Support the development of a new knowledge management structure
- Organize and tag internal documents (research papers, reports, presentations) to ensure staff have access to up-to-date and relevant information
- Ensure that insights, lessons learned, and best practices from past projects are properly documented and easily accessible for current and future use
Required Qualifications
The skills and experiences you bring include:
- Current graduate student in a master’s program in Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration, Development Studies, Sociology, or similar discipline
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize insights from research to inform the development of new policies, products and services
- Interest or experience in knowledge management, including organizing, curating, and sharing organizational knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication in English
- Possess the ability to work remotely
Preferred Qualifications
You’re an ideal candidate if you have:
- Knowledge of microfinance, digital financial services, or fintech innovations aimed at increasing financial inclusion for underserved populations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, especially SharePoint, and MS Teams

Please note that all Women’s World Banking internships will be virtual and unpaid, although students are welcome to seek outside funding. For the position to be considered an internship, academic credit remains a requisite (otherwise, we can discuss a volunteer opportunity).
