Samit Ghosh

Samit Ghosh is the Founder and Former Chief Executive Officer of Ujjivan Financial Services (Ujjivan), a microfinance institution which serving over a million urban and semi-urban poor across 20 states in India. Ujjivan began operating in 2005 and is headquartered in Bangalore. The institution believes in a holistic approach to alleviate poverty, and works closely with its sister non-profit institution, Parinaam Foundation, to provide services in healthcare, education, vocational training and community development to its microfinance customers.

Mr. Ghosh is a founder and board member of: Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN), the association of for-profit MFIs in India, and the Association of Karnataka Microfinance Institutions (AKMI). He is also on the Steering Committee of the Smart Campaign.

Mr. Ghosh was a career banker for 30 years and worked both in South Asia and the Middle East. He started his career with Citibank in 1975, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2019, Mr. Ghosh won the Inclusive Finance India Award for “Contribution to advancing financial inclusion by an individual.”
