Title: Independent Consultant – Regional/Country Director, Southeast Asia

Summary:
Women’s World Banking is seeking an experienced, highly motivated independent consultant to develop a business case for establishing a permanent operational presence in the Southeast Asian region – supporting Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. To support a validated business case, within the first three months the consultant will:

  • Prepare a five-year business plan to articulate how the organization will launch and scale within the region supported by a Profit and Loss statement
  • Identify the best country to establish physical operations
  • Research and recommend the best legal structure to incorporate
  • Outline governance and liability requirements
  • Identify a setup budget required to establish the entity

If Women’s World Banking validates the recommendations, the consultant will be considered as the leading candidate for full-time employment to act on behalf of Women’s World Banking as a Regional/Country Director for Southeast Asia. The consultant will not only help deliver on our organization’s strategic goals of advancing women’s financial inclusion in the country, but also more generally build regional presence and oversee work within the region. By leveraging the rolling market needs and trends assessments, this role will deliver on the vision of identifying how best to implement the strategy in a way that will increase our clients’ market share and profitability while resulting in more empowered women being served with enhanced financial services.

The Director will have to know how to operate independently. Although in the immediate term, this role will primarily be supported by staff from New York City, in the near future, this position will be responsible for building a local team.

  • Identify strategic partnerships to implement country strategy;
  • Enhance Women’s World Banking’s thought leadership in country / region;
  • Lead business development efforts in close coordination with NY team;
  • Develop and oversee the country / region revenue strategy, ensuring that fundraising objectives are consistent with overall organizational priorities.

Future Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Market Research team to identify market trends and leads in priority markets that can be converted into business opportunities;
  • Build relationships with new partners;
  • Plan business development approaches and pitches;
  • Work with team to develop proposals that speak to clients’ needs and objectives and ensure alignment with Women’s World Banking’s strategy;
  • Attend and speak at industry events and ensure that information on market trends is disseminated throughout the organization;
  • Present to the Executive Team business trends with a view to develop content and agenda to achieve learning objectives across partner institutions;
  • Provide strategic advisory services to clients and partner institutions in one or more technical areas in the financial inclusion space, e.g. digital financial services, savings, SME finance.

Success within the first 75 days:

  • Draft business plan for Southeast Asia;
  • Embrace Women’s World Banking’s unique characteristics and offerings in order to market them to potential partners;
  • Learn and comprehend Women’s World Banking’s business model;
  • Become proficient in Salesforce and fully incorporate it into your day-to-day activities;
  • Fully establish and strengthen existing relationships within the assigned client portfolio;
  • Demonstrate your command for the position and ability to drive and secure new business relationships and opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years in business development and/or management consulting in the area of financial services;
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Confident decision-maker;
  • Experience selling to and advising senior executives/business leaders;
  • Proven collaborative, negotiation and persuasion skills;
  • Impeccable presentation, verbal, and written communication skills and practiced compelling public speaker.
  • Advanced project management skills;
  • Knowledge in sales management, marketing, strategic management and business planning;
  • Excellent analytical skills, and ability to synthesize data and information to provide a high-level view which is accessible to a range of audiences;
  • Ability to engage and influence senior executives to take action and try something new;
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to engage colleagues at all levels of seniority in partner institutions;
  • Ability to isolate problems, articulate them, and quickly implement solutions;
  • Self-starter and independent thinker with significant personal ambition and sense of urgency to make business and social impact within the financial inclusion community;
  • Intellectual curiosity demonstrated in creative solution-seeking;
  • Willingness to take on significant travel within the region.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred, equivalent work experience acceptable;
  • Commitment to women’s economic issues and a passion for the work of Women’s World Banking.
