Women’s World Banking seeks an individual or firm with project management and communication skills as well as experience in delivering financial products and services to support in managing one or more projects focused on design and pilot of solutions to expand women’s usage of financial products and services in Egypt. Projects may focus on the design and/or optimization of digital financial services (DFS) products, microinsurance products, and/or credit products with partners ranging from banks to telecommunications companies to private foundations.

 Objectives & Responsibilities
The selected consultant(s) will be accountable for ensuring flawless execution of the project(s) through the following responsibilities:

  • Liaise with project partners at both head office and field levels to facilitate effective implementation of the project(s) and ensure adherence to model design;
  • Provide on-the-ground oversight of field implementation of the project(s), and clearly communicate observations, results, and analysis to Women’s World Banking and other partners;
  • Regularly monitor and communicate progress of project goals against targets and key deliverables, and communicate and escalate challenges and anticipated delays in a timely manner;
  • Manage logistics in advance of project monitoring and evaluation visits;
  • Provide support to Women’s World Banking and local research firm(s) as needed to plan and execute qualitative in-field research among target segments;
  • Communicate regularly with project partners and Women’s World Banking, including participating in regular project update calls and following up on action items; and
  • Gather and consolidate key inputs from project partners for regular reports to Women’s World Banking, project partners, and the project funder.

Duration of Consultancy
The selected consultant(s) will be granted an on-call retainer contract by Women’s World Banking for the period of one year, which may be renewed at the discretion of Women’s World Banking.

 Location of Work
The selected consultant(s) will be based in Cairo, Egypt and must be available for calls with Women’s World Banking staff located in EST and CEST time zones. Bilateral communication will take place from Monday through Thursday. The selected consultant(s) should manage communication required with external project partners on Sundays, the start of the work week in Cairo, and may receive communication from the Women’s World Banking team on Fridays but will not be expected to answer. The position will report to the Project Manager and Strategic Advisory Lead(s) for the respective project(s) at Women’s World Banking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in English required (spoken and written);
  • Fluency in Arabic required (spoken and written);
  • Outstanding project management and communication skills, including in navigating and minimizing cultural communication barriers;
  • Strong strategic influencing skills and ability to motivate diverse groups to achieve a common objective;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations and cultivate effective working relationships;
  • Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently;
  • Strong project planning, coordination and analytical skills, with high attention to detail;
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience in international development, preferably with a focus on financial inclusion and/or gender;
  • Experience conducting field work in emerging markets, with a strong preference for experience in Egypt, and demonstrated ability to cultivate effective working relationships with field staff;
  • Strong interest in increasing access to financial services among un/underbanked women in Egypt;
  • Willingness to work on a global clock and accommodate meetings outside a standard 9-5 workday, as needed; and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Q: Can a consulting firm apply with more than one advisor (for example;75% of Microfinance advisor and 25% of gender advisor)?
A: We do not expect to need more than 1 person from a firm and would prefer a Microfinance background than Gender. A firm may apply but will need to commit the name of the person and we will want to interview that person.

Q: How many days are anticipated, along the year, for the local advisor to deliver the planned deliverables? Should S/he be a full timer?
A: This won’t be a full time position but at this stage we are unable to advise how many days/month/quarter.

Q: If a consulting firm is applying what kind of references should be submitted as a part of the firm’s application? Our understanding of the word “references” is that it means previous experiences of similar assignments that the company did in the past. Would you please confirm that this is the required references? Or you need references for the staff working on the assignment?
A: We would want references (contact information for previous clients or assignments) specifically for the person that is being committed to this project as a candidate.
