Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa
Vice Governor, National Bank of Rwanda
Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa has serviced as Vice Governor of the National Bank of Rwanda since 2011. Previously, she was a member of the Government of Rwanda’s Cabinet as Minister of State in charge of Economic Planning, and then as Minister of Trade and Industry.
As the first female Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Nsanzabaganwa spearheaded the implementation of numerous reforms in the areas of consumer rights and protections, competition, and intellectual property rights. She also contributed to the creation of the Rwanda Development Board, a flagship institution for the development of the private sector in Rwanda.
Under her tenure as Minister of State in charge of Economic Planning, Dr. Nsanzabaganwa contributed to the strengthening of the planning and statistical system at both the local and national levels. She provided key assistance for the first Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy, and spearheaded the establishment of the National Institute of Statists of Rwanda.
Dr. Nsanzabaganwa is the chairperson of New Faces, New Voices’ Rwanda chapter. She holds a Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
