Position Overview
Position Summary
Women’s World Banking’s research functions serves both internal and external goals of the organization, contributing to our work across the listed countries. Internally, qualitative and quantitative research informs the development, deployment, and assessment of financial services for low-income customers in our priority market. Externally, evidence from research helps Women’s World Banking to pursue its ambitious advocacy agenda.
Women’s World Banking uses a bench of research firms and consultants to help us investigate research questions through individual research projects.
Women’s World Banking is seeking experienced research firms and consultants with qualitative and/or quantitative research skills to conduct either remote or in-person research regarding women’s financial inclusion and economic empowerment in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Nigeria. This process is to put a set of individuals and research firms on retainer to be used as resources for work across Women’s World Banking’s research portfolio in specified locations over the coming years.
Roles and Responsibilities
Research firms and consultants undertake any combination of the following activities:
- Background research
- Literature reviews
- Secondary data analysis
- Research instrument design
- Sampling strategy
- Conducting interviews and design research sessions
- Holding focus groups
- Fielding surveys
- User testing
- Additional data collection
- Qualitative analysis
- Quantitative analysis
- Drafting results write-ups
- Additional activities as they emerge
Required Qualifications
- A graduate-level education (Master’s or PhD)
- Expertise in design research
- Up to 10 years of experience with either qualitative or quantitative research outside of student work
- A track record of delivering quality work as a research consultant or in a role undertaking similar work
- Fluency with Stata, R (for quant analysis); NVivo or Dedoose (for qual analysis); or design research analysis techniques
- Proactive project management skills with strong attention to details
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- A stable internet connection
- Ability to communicate clearly (written and spoken) in English required
- Ability to develop clear, well-structured research reports and effectively present
Preferred Qualifications
- Have more than Five years of experience in conducting research
- Experience in conducting different types/techniques of research: In-depth Interview, Focus Group, Case Study, A/B testing, Experiment, Survey, Impact Evaluation
- Experience conducting research related to financial services/inclusion and/or gender/women issue, especially low-income women
- Experience working with governmental institutions, public authorities, and associations (e.g. women entrepreneurs, teachers’ association, etc.)
- Experience managing qualitative research activities and preparation, including recruitment, training, logistic preparation, etc.
- Experience in providing research field notes, including daily debrief to share research summary/insights, as well as research analysis and synthesis
- Experience working in tight timelines and rigorous data collection schedule within deadline
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in project timelines and needs
- Experience working in a multilateral and cross-time-zone team to meet deliverables
- Demonstrate strong expertise in big data analysis, with the ability to derive meaningful insights from complex datasets.
