Samit Ghosh is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ujjivan Financial Services (Ujjivan), a microfinance institution which serving over a million urban and semi-urban poor across 20 states in India. Ujjivan began operating in 2005 and is headquartered in Bangalore. The institution believes in a holistic approach to alleviate poverty, and works closely with its sister non-profit institution, Parinaam Foundation, to provide services in healthcare, education, vocational training and community development to its microfinance customers.
Mr. Ghosh is a founder and board member of: Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN), the association of for-profit MFIs in India, and the Association of Karnataka Microfinance Institutions (AKMI). He is also on the Steering Committee of the Smart Campaign.
Mr. Ghosh was a career banker for 30 years and worked both in South Asia and the Middle East. He started his career with Citibank in 1975, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
