Women’s World Banking research for BSR highlighted

HERfinance—which BSR launched in 2012 as a pilot project in India as part of its broader efforts to empower women in the global economy—has already reached nearly 8,000 workers in the readymade garment sector.

Research by BSR and partner Women’s World Banking revealed that factory employees in Delhi and Bangalore, many of whom are migrants from neighboring villages in India, face significant financial pressures and have limited access to information or support in the cities where they work. Initial feedback from HERfinance trainings in one factory in Delhi shows that 88 percent of women and men who participated found the training relevant, and the majority expressed a strong interest in ongoing education. One participant said the training was already paying off: “It felt great to know that we can fulfill our dreams with the help of planning and budgeting.”
