Women’s World Banking

Women’s World Banking is the global non-profit devoted to giving more low-income women access to the financial tools and resources essential to their security and prosperity. For more than 35 years we have worked with financial institutions to show them the benefit of investing in women as clients, and as leaders. We equip these institutions to meet women’s needs through authoritative market research, leadership training, sustainable financial products and consumer education. Headquartered in New York, Women’s World Banking works with 39 institutions in 28 countries with a reach of 14 million women to create access to finance on a greater scale than ever before.

Rationale or Purpose of the Assignment

Women’s World Banking would like the assistance of a volunteer to support the activities of the development team, in particular relating to the Individual and Major Giving Program. While the activities will focus on the areas of individual and major gifts, the volunteer may support on additional development team activities as needed.

Major Gifts is responsible for raising funds from individuals and family foundations that can support Women’s World Banking at a significant level for unrestricted and restricted gifts. The team works closely with the executive leadership team, board members, and other high-level volunteers.

Roles and Responsibilities 

The volunteer will be responsible for activities including, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining the database (SalesForce), including creating and updating constituent records and performing data integrity checks;
  • Researching and preparing briefings on current and prospective donors;
  • Assist with development and stewardship of Women’s World Banking’s Young Professionals Network;
  • Assist with 2014 Benefit Sponsor recognition and fulfillment of commitments;
  • Staff donor cultivation events which may include check-in of VIPs;
  • Manage online promotion of the 2014 Benefit on crowd funding sites;
  • Drafting Letters of Intent (LOIs) for Family Foundations; and
  • Other projects as necessary

Estimated Timetable and Terms

The position is available from May – September, 2014. This is a part-time, unpaid position.

Candidate Profile

  • Professional and responsible demeanor
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Interest in learning the details of Major Gifts fundraising
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Database experience is a plus; SalesForce or Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in women’s economic empowerment
  • Creativity is appreciated
