Women’s World Banking

Women’s World Banking is the global non-profit devoted to giving more low-income women access to the financial tools and resources essential to their security and prosperity. For more than 35 years we have worked with financial institutions to show them the benefit of investing in women as clients, and as leaders. We equip these institutions to meet women’s needs through authoritative market research, leadership training, sustainable financial products and consumer education. With headquarters in New York, Women’s World Banking works with 39 institutions in 28 countries with a reach of 14 million women to create access to finance on a greater scale than ever before. These institutions form the Women’s World Banking network.


The Information Technology (IT) Department is in charge of helping the efficiency of the entire organization by providing the tools and services that every employee needs to perform their work. In 2011 Women’s World Banking made a big investment in a system to aide in our fundraising efforts while having the ability to grow with the organization. This system has grown to include every aspect of the organization operations and it’s the Information Technology Department’s responsibility to ensure access from anywhere in the world.

Rationale or Purpose of the Assignment

The intern will assist in the support of the 40+ employees, volunteers and consultants that work for Women’s World Banking. This will include both preparations for upcoming projects as well as support following the delivery of a project.  The intern will not only support staff in the office but all remote users that works around the world.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

The Intern will work with the Information Technology staff on a range of projects related to all of the areas of IT’s work.  Assignments during the internship period may include:

  • Desktop Imaging
  • Help with physical set up of desks, workstations, IT equipment and networking/cabling
  • Set up laptops for new employees /interns
  • Set up or troubleshoot Linksys VoIP phones for employees.
  • Familiarity with standard desktop concepts, including TCP/IP settings and troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
  • Printer troubleshooting
  • Maintain and organize data closet.
  • Clear out laptops of former employees and return to inventory
  • Help with miscellaneous hardware/IT installations at the new location’s conference room set up etc.
  • Inventorying IT assets both by physical and logical means

Monitoring During the Assignment

The intern will report directly to the manager of the Information Technology Department, Javier Borja.  Supervision will come from Jorge Ordonez, Associate of the IT department.

Resources and Support During the Assignment

This will be an office-based internship.  The intern will have access to all relevant resources during the term of the assignment.  S/he will work closely with the IT Team, who will provide needed guidance and support to ensure the intern has a successful and rewarding experience.


The intern will be evaluated by the IT Team at the end of the assignment.

Candidate Profile

Strong Candidates will have completed coursework towards BA or completed associate at an accredited university/college in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems, Network and Computer Security, or other relevant field.  Skills include:

  • 0-1 years of experience with desktop support
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and up for the challenge of a constantly changing environment
  • A passion for technology and collaborating with teams
  • Familiarity with Windows Active Directory
  • Familiarity with Office 365
  • Familiarity with MS Office
  • Must be customer service-oriented
  • Be generally Tech Handy, reliable, and dynamic!
  • Display strong written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding abilities to prioritize, analyze, synthesize and organize
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort in change management
  • Familiarity with Database management (SalesForce is a plus)
