Summary

The consultant will provide service in the course of two large projects that Women’s World Banking is leading on the topic of international remittances. The service will consist on one side in business analyses of as-is and to-be processes and on the other side in providing advice with regard to regulatory requirements.

About the Project

Women’s World Banking in pursuit of its goal to improve the financial lot and situation of women around the world has several ongoing projects across the world focused on (international) remittances, blockchain, digital finance and financial inclusion.

According to the World Bank in 2021, the global average cost of sending 200 USD is 6%. which represented an estimated 38bn USD lost in transfers to low and middle income countries.

However, cross-border remittances are a financial lifeline for many households in low-income and middle-income countries and as they send smaller amounts, they often pay more than the average 6%.

Together with financial and technology partners, Women’s World Banking is working on developing products solutions are gender-sensitive and contribute to the financial empowerment of female migrants and their families. One of the focal areas through which we seek to achieve this is reducing the cost of remittances and increasing the amount of money ultimately getting to the families. Other areas include bundling remittances with other financial services such as insurance, pensions, furthering financial literacy and building digital capacity with remittances as a use case, process improvement and transparency.

In order to achieve this, Women’s World Banking wants to deepen its understanding of the remittance ecosystem, such as (but not limited to): key processes, fee structures, exchange rates, ecosystem participants, main players and competition, licensing requirements, public policies, regulatory bodies, cross-border payment infrastructures, technological infrastructure (switch), speed factors, cash payment infrastructures, regulations between the corridor and recipient countries. Remittances by its very nature crosses different financial and regulatory jurisdictions necessitating a specialized knowledge of that ecosystem.

Women’s World Banking wants to hire a seasoned Consultant to help expand our understanding of this ecosystem and provide specific consulting support where needed.
