About the Project

Women’s World Banking, a leading, global non-profit organization, is building a world where low-income women, their families, businesses, communities, and economies thrive. We drive systems-level change by advocating to policy makers in developing countries to create policies that support women’s financial inclusion, increase gender diversity, and build women’s leadership. We also work on the ground with financial services providers to demonstrate the benefit of investing in women as customers and as leaders.

You are a talented professional with diverse experience in South Asia (Especially in India) and who wants to contribute to advancing women’s financial inclusion (WFI) and women economic empowerment (WEE) in India. You have an ability to liaison with Government bodies at National and State level and could contextualize and deliver messaging across diverse markets and audiences especially to policy makers, institutional donors, industry stakeholders.

We are looking for a strong Policy consultant who have deep connects and influence within Government agencies working in financial inclusion and women economic empowerment areas.  Who can distill and communicate WWB program findings, trends and insights, and who could support WWB in representing across various Government forums, taskforce, working groups and events.

This is a great opportunity to join a small and growing, collaborative South Asia team focused on expanding the delivery of financial services to low-income women. The role will be based in India and directly reports to our Policy Lead for South Asia with a dotted reporting line to our Global Director of Policy.


Objectives & Responsibilities

Support Women’s World Banking Policy objectives in India in its mission of promoting evidence-informed policy in the Women Financial Inclusion Sector: This shall entail

  • Understand, summarize and support the dissemination of WWB advisory and research work in the WFI sector;
  • Working with policy makers, government authorities, multilateral organizations, and relevant associations to disseminate, advocate, secure buy-in and influence on matters related to consideration/adoption of guidelines/recommendations ( primarily in the areas of Women Financial Inclusion and Women Economic Empowerment )
  • Actively identify emerging and significant policy issues, and engage with government and private sector stakeholders on issues of importance
  • Monitor political and social events in South Asia, and work with cross-functional teams to leverage opportunities or mitigate risks
  • Develop and execute strategic government relations plan for the organization at state as well as National level
  • Help prepare senior management for meetings with high-quality background papers, briefing notes, talking points, policy briefs and analysis on inclusive finance. Leverage external research, as well as evidence from Women World Banking’s own Advisory Solutions projects as appropriate
  • Coordinate and communicate with the India and global policy lead on a periodic basis to develop work plans and plans of action for interactions with various Government stakeholders consistent

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience of working with various Government bodies in India, Public Policy and Government Affairs
  • Economist, MSW (Masters in Social Work), MBA, International Business or similar from a reputed institute
  • Experience of managing and working with senior level Government officials ( At secretary, Minister level) and influencers
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with outstanding attention to detail
  • Ability to react quickly to changing circumstances and deal with ambiguity to build creative policy programmes and solutions
  • Strong interest in women’s financial inclusion
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to sum up key points concisely
  • Experience working in India
  • Fluency in English and Hindi.
