SUMMARY
Women’s World Banking is seeking a Regional Microinsurance Project Manager for Caregiver for the insurance portfolio in Nigeria.

Project Background
Caregiver is Women’s World Banking’s unique approach to addressing the risk protection needs of low-income women with a healthcare / hospital cash microinsurance product. For most low-income women, this is their first experience with insurance. Starting from the first moment of engagement, their enrolment, client service and claims handling, all steps are designed to meet women’s high standards and expectations.

Supported by Swiss Re Foundation, Women’s World Banking is building its local operations to further replicate the Caregiver program in new markets.

Key Responsibilities
The person will be the main Project Manager for Caregiver for the insurance portfolio in that region.

The person will work with Women’s World Banking international experts to deliver microinsurance solutions and get a unique insight in our proven methodology. The person reports into the global head of insurance solutions in Zurich and works closely with the Women’s World Banking colleagues in New York and the regional relationship manager.

The work will focus on the implementation of the various project activities on the ground but also includes a range of related activities ranging from business development to research and evaluation as well as project management. A critical part of the work may involve travel to remote locations and later within the African continent.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • General
    • Build strong relationship with Women’s World Banking insurance team, relationship manager in the region and a full understanding of the decentralized delivery model of Caregiver.
    • Provide regular updates on country situation, political development and other risks (e.g. elections, global/country shocks such as COVID-19, weather risks) in Nigeria.
  • Project Implementation
    • Develop a thorough understanding of the partner institutions as an organization, its operations, project context, key stakeholders.
    • Build relationship with the key stakeholders of the local partners at all levels starting from the top leadership team to the last mile branch staff.
    • With the project team at the head office, participate in the various project activities such as institutional diagnostic, customer research, product designing, user/product testing, training, marketing, program assessment, IT set-up, operations etc.
    • Lead all the logistical work such as finding the translators, research firms and local consultants for specific project activities..
    • Lead project oversight by organizing and tracking local project activities, preparing an action plan of weekly activities and giving regular updates to the project committee consisting of partner organization’s senior management and Women’s World Banking.
    • Collect data and information from the local partner institutions in timely manner.
    • (for new partners) Participate and/or lead preliminary institutional assessments as part of business development.
  • Strategic / Country Level
    • Country Expertise: Build understanding of the financial services and fintech environment, key players and regulations, organizations serving low-income women, and general characteristics of low-income customer segments.
    • Business Development: Carry out periodic ‘Marketing Intelligence’ activities with a view to staying abreast with competitive developments within the region. Keep abreast of local developments and up-date strategic country profile, identify and help develop a pipeline of partnerships with local aggregators. Participate in business development activities and project scoping, and work closely with Women’s World Banking’s regional relationship manager in Nigeria.
    • Relationship Management: Build and manage relationships with stakeholders such as representatives from the regulators (e.g. NAICOM and CBN), financial industry associations, banks, MFIs, and insurers.

Required Qualifications

  • Passion for working to develop microinsurance for emerging customers and working on the ground with low income-communities
  • Possess a mindset for creating sustainable microinsurance products to serve uninsured, low-income women
  • A degree (master’s degree preferred) in economics, engineering, international relations, MBA, accounting, finance or other relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • 3-5 years of working experience in SME/ micro-banking, insurance, microfinance, development, or international relations
  • Proven Program/Project Management and client engagement experience, including successful project delivery and capacity to work in cross-functional teams of experts and multiple stakeholders at all levels in an organization
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with the remote team members working in multiple different time zones
  • Hands-on, “can do” approach and ability to work with a small but dynamic team of fellow professional.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; embracing ambiguity without making assumptions;
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills in English; fluency in any of the local Nigerian languages (e.g. Nigerian English, Nigerian Pidgin or native languages such as Hausa or Yoruba) is a plus
  • Must be willing to travel extensively within Nigeria, but could include other developing countries
