About the Project

Research is integral to Women’s World Banking’s approach to supporting the financial lives of low-income women in emerging markets and to evaluating the impact of innovative financial solutions on women’s security and prosperity. In an interdisciplinary team of researchers, advocates, designers, and business and product specialists, this Part-Time Research Assistant position supports the team up to 20 hours per week on two kinds of research projects:

1) Qualitative research on particularly relevant topics to women’s financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment; and

3) Customer research and market analysis of key identified women consumers, contributing to the development of products to serve these consumers.

This position reports to the Regional Research Lead, LatAm, with responsibility for supporting research around the world in partnership with other members of the research team. The position is part of the broader global research team, housed under Women’s World Banking’s advocacy vertical. The position is based intentionally in the Americas to have close proximity to Women’s World Banking’s team based in the U.S.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating and executing to research design for topical research and market research. Such design may include individual interviews, focus groups, mystery shopping, or other methods. Projects’ duration may be short-, medium-, or long-term.
  • Contributing to the design of research instruments such as surveys and discussion guides.
  • Brainstorming to develop sampling criteria.
  • Training and monitoring field teams to ensure data quality.
  • Analyzing data using a range of qualitative research methods.
  • Managing, organizing, and maintaining transcript and interview data, complying with nuanced data ethics and security.
  • Writing reports, blog posts, and PowerPoint presentations to share research results.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Geography, Gender Studies, Economics, Development Studies, or other relevant Social Sciences discipline with qualitative training and practical experience in qualitative research.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leveraging social science research tools.
  • Research, work, or familiarity with low-income populations in emerging markets.
  • Proficiency in at least one qualitative analysis software such as NVivo or Dedoose.
  • Ability to conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills in English (and Spanish a plus) to share with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Spanish language skills a plus.
