Channeling investment capital to promote women’s financial inclusion

Our mission is to deliver strong financial and social returns by investing in innovative companies that offer low-income and underserved people access to finance, supply chains and software solutions that enhance productivity. We create value through advocacy and a dedicated technical assistance facility to optimize market positioning by ensuring workplaces and customer acquisition campaigns are reaching women, and lower market risks via improved understanding and managing of customer vulnerability to natural hazards and weather-related business disruption.

What Makes Our Approach Unique

Fund I is a pioneer of impact investing in inclusive financial service providers. Fund II expands the investment strategy in innovative financial service providers, with a dedicated technical assistance facility to help portfolio companies achieve strategic objectives toward growth and inclusion. Each Portfolio Company undergoes an in-depth, data-driven Gender Performance Study resulting in customized, strategic Gender Action Plans – a unique approach to women-focused investing designed to drive the greatest impact. Rigorous, sex-disaggregated data collection demonstrates inclusion results.

Moving forward, WAM seeks to build on this foundation to conduct context-customized market research to help each portfolio company expand its market share of women customers while understanding and potentially addressing their weather and natural hazard-related vulnerabilities.

Gender Performance Checklist: Boost your business with proven strategies

Through our research and customized action plans, we discovered a set of consistent recommendations that emerged across different business models, geographies, and maturity levels. We compiled these recommendations into a universal checklist of attributes, policies, and practices that each company should develop to enhance its inclusivity. This checklist is not only suitable for our portfolio companies but also for companies across various markets, industries, and business models. We are excited to share these findings broadly, hoping to inspire other companies to adopt them.
